What do you think about MinuteClinic?

We’re doing what we can to make healthcare a little easier for people with a lot going on. Our board-certified practitioners are trained to diagnose and treat common family illnesses, such as strep throat, bronchitis and ear, eye and sinus infections.

Just back from a MMIS/Medicaid conference in San Diego, I'm pleased to tell you that good things are happening in the Medicaid space - with MITA, a new initiative. More on this later...

I had the opportunity to meet Senator Obama recently, and when asked about his Healthcare proposals - and why they don't go further to promise universal care, he stated that with all of his policies he starts with the ideal and then measures them against pragmatism. What good is a campaign promise or proposed legislation if I know it will never come to fruition?

What would you like to change about the health care system today?
For starts...let's focus on collaboration, prevention, and compassion . 1)We need to move towards having Providers and Payers work in collaboration- to eliminate the administrative waste that drives 30%+ of the $2T cost of healthcare and also improve the patient experience. 2)We need to create benefits and incentive structures that support wellness and prevention- where Doctors, Patients, and Insurers are aligned to achieve this higher goal. 3) We need to do better with delivering healthcare to the poor - to act on our compassion by expanding access, inspiring healthy living, and exploring how community faith-based clinics fit with government programs.
What would you like to get from the Health Care 2.0 Community?
For this specific season, I'd like to see the participants engage in a political conversation about how each party and candidate helps/hurts the healthcare crisis. Generally, I hope to be learning what others think about the biggest problems and solutions for healthcare. Also, it will be a great sounding board for asking questions and testing ideas.
How do you stay informed about health care issues?
Google News customized topics pushes real-time news about the healthcare topics I'm interested in, Attending Conferences, Healthcare 2.0. The best way is to go to lunch with friends in healthcare and ask 100 questions - and learn everything you can from people smarter than yourself.

JUST IN! US Healthcare State by State - Vermont on Top, Mississippi on Bottom

The Health of the Nation: State By State
Vermont's on top and Mississippi's on the bottom of the United Health Foundation rankings. What factors were considered?

Minnesota residents drink too much, but they have a low premature death rate. Mississippians don't overindulge, but only a fifth of the population has health insurance. And Vermont seems to be under a lucky star—few uninsured residents, a very low rate of infectious diseases, and a low premature death rate.

The UHF said that Americans' overall health has declined by 0.3% as measured by key health indicators, despite progress made in several areas such as reduced cancer rates. It cited factors such as obesity, an increasing number of uninsured people, and the "persistence of risky health behaviors such as tobacco use and binge drinking."
